Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III)
"Futami-ga-ura akebono-no kuni"
(Katsushika 1786-1865 Edo) Dawn at the rocks near the town of Ise. Polychrome woodblock print, about 1835. Signature, censorship stamp Kiwame. Oban size 25 x 37.5 cm; framed under glass. - Lit. Thieme/Becker 22nd - The "Married Couple Rocks" (me-oto-iwa), connected by a strong straw rope (shimenawa) and protruding from the sea, symbolize according to mythology the Japanese creator deities Izanagi and Izanami.
