Paris, mid-18th century, Vernis Martin

The pair of wig boxes is made in black lacquer and finely decorated in gold, partly sculptural, with East Asian architecture and vegetation.

The fittings are finely engraved and chased as well as fire-gilded in the style of 17th and early 18th century Japanese models.

Both boxes probably made in Paris in the Martins' manufactory around 1750.
