Paris, around 1786

Designed by Francois Vion (1737-1790), a magnificent bronze lion stands on an ebonised wooden stand. On his back he carries a round clock on a saddlecloth, which is crowned with a vase with handles.

The high-quality bronze is very elaborately chiselled and fire-gilded on all sides. Eight—day movement, chiming disc movement on a hell on the hour and half hour.

Dial signed "Mignolet a Paris". Joseph Mignole became master in 1786.

Mechanism signed "lmbert a Paris", Jean-Gabrielle Imbert, master from 1776.
