Mattenheimer, Andreas Theodor - A pair of portrait pendants of a married couple

(Bamberg 1787-1856 Munich) The man is depicted in a knee-length portrait standing next to a small work table, holding an official letter from the Gleusdorf tax office; the lady is seated at a small table with a basket of flowers, knitting; both are shown within an oval frame. Oil on canvas, inscribed and dated on the reverse: 'Mattenheimer pinxit / 1809'. 49 x 41 cm. - Cracking, minimal loss of paint. - A similarly composed portrait of a gentleman from 1805 is held in the Bamberg Historical Museum (Inv. No. 1030).
