Large hoop crown - designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel - Neoclassical, Berlin c. 1835

Large hoop formed from curved elements with 12 chandelier arms, richly decorated with carvings of openwork foliage, rosettes and acanthus tendrils, suspended from arched rods on the central shaft, with two concentric crowns at the top. Gilt wood and metal, prismatic hanging. H. approx. 105 cm, Ø approx. 112 cm. - The execution of the chandelier attributed to cabinetmaker Claus August Mencke and Schwitzky, a well-known manufacturer in Berlin. Comparable pieces from 1830 can be found in Berlin in the Knoblauchhaus and in Schloss Glienicke Casino Saal and Roter Saal, see Gert Streidt / Klaus Frahm: Potsdam: Schlösser und Gärten der Hohenzollern. - In very good condition, from an important private collection.

Mattenheimer, Andreas Theodor - A pair of portrait pendants of a married couple

(Bamberg 1787-1856 Munich) The man is depicted in a knee-length portrait standing next to a small work table, holding an official letter from the Gleusdorf tax office; the lady is seated at a small table with a basket of flowers, knitting; both are shown within an oval frame. Oil on canvas, inscribed and dated on the reverse: 'Mattenheimer pinxit / 1809'. 49 x 41 cm. - Cracking, minimal loss of paint. - A similarly composed portrait of a gentleman from 1805 is held in the Bamberg Historical Museum (Inv. No. 1030). 

Very fine Baroque secretary desk - Southern Germany or Switzerland, mid-18th century

Three-drawer commode section, curved front, slightly convex sides, stepped rows of drawers and a central compartment behind the slanted, S-shaped writing flap, the upper section curved on all sides with a high-arched cornice. Walnut veneer inside and out with mirrored grain, original bronze fittings, commode with central iron lock. 220 x 120 x 64 cm. - Baroque furniture of a high level of craftsmanship, probably attributable to the Bernese cabinetmaker Mathäus Funk or his workshop. 

Kuehl, Gotthardt - Wedding Ceremony in the Asamkirche, Munich

(Lübeck 1850-1915 Dresden) Oil on wood. Signed lower right, with location and date: ''Paris 81''. 95 x 61 cm. - Lit.: Thieme/Becker 22. - Kuehl lived in Paris from 1879 to 1889, where he was able to present his works to the public at the Salon; subsequently, he was active in Munich until 1895, before settling in Dresden.

Hundertwasser, Friedensreich - Bärnbach Devotion

(Vienna 1928-2000, aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2 off New Zealand) Summer version of St Barbara's Church in Bärnbach. Colour etching. Inscribed on the plate, reversed: '1987 for the church of Bärnbach Hundertwasser'; red stamp signature (Inkan) bottom right; on the left, edition number '183/380' with inscription and date '19 January 1988'. Published by Gruener Janura AG, Glarus 1987; printed by Robert Finger, Münichsthal / Vienna 1987. Viewing dimensions 26 x 36.5 cm; mounted in a passe-partout and framed under glass.

Tondo ''The Virgin and the Christ Child'' - Italy, 17th century

Circular relief depicting the Virgin Mary nursing the Christ Child, dressed in finely modelled, richly draped garments with delicate facial features. She cradles the nude Christ Child, who is crowned with a radiant halo and turns toward a angel behind him. Set within a square, moulded frame with rocaille decoration. Alabaster; softwood, partially gilded. 52 × 52 cm. - Minor defects to the frame.
